Press Release Body = Raleigh, NC - 9 March 2006 - Scott E. Secor, president of Oryel, Inc., a Human Capital Management company, was elected to the board of directors of PLM Families Together during the organization's March board meeting. For the past twenty-six years, PLM Families Together has provided housing and support services to homeless families in Wake County in order to break the cycle of poverty and keep families intact.
A Lutheran ministry as well as a not-for-profit social services organization, PLM Families Together is distinguished in its unwavering devotion to its core mission of improving the lives of homeless families and in its history of successful outcomes. The organization is a well-known leader in providing homeless services as part of the Wake Housing and Homeless Coalition. Executive Director Laura Benson says, "We are very proud that families do well after they leave our services. They tend to be very successful moving into either transitional or permanent housing and maintaining the housing."
New board member Scott Secor is active in Grace Lutheran Church where he has served on numerous committees and was Vice President of the Church Council. He will serve on the PLM Executive Committee for three years and has already agreed to chair the Outreach and Development Committee. He says, "Here in Wake County, in the midst of plenty, there are far too many families struggling just to maintain the most basic level of existence. I consider it a privilege to be able to increase public awareness of the work being done by PLM Families Together and to raise funds for the services the organization provides."
Laura Benson says, "Scott is already proving himself to be a great asset to our board, coupling a commitment to serving homeless families with a business acumen that will extend our organization's reach into the business community, expand the congregational base that supports PLM, and increase volunteerism for our various programs. He exhibits a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude, putting into action his personal beliefs about individual and corporate philanthropy."
PLM Families Together programs include an entry level shelter that houses 27 families at a time, a transitional housing program with life skills training for 13 families, support for families that have achieved permanent housing, and short term emergency housing for relatives of patients at Wake Medical Center.
